Toyota Camry — diagnostics, specs & common problems
The Camry is among the most numerous sedans on the road in North America, which makes its fault patterns unusually well documented. The eighth generation moved to the TNGA-K platform and introduced a new engine family, so diagnostic advice written for earlier cars often does not transfer.

- Moved to the TNGA-K platform with a lower centre of gravity and a stiffer body.
- Introduced the A25A-FKS engine with combined port and direct injection.
- Adopted a factory oil specification of 0W-16 on the four-cylinder engine, which is thinner than most owners expect.

Carbon accumulation on intake valves at high mileage

Direct injection sprays fuel past the intake valves rather than over them, so deposits build up where fuel would otherwise wash them clean. The dual-injection design on this engine reduces the problem considerably compared with direct-only engines, but it does not eliminate it beyond roughly 150,000 km.
