P0130 — O2 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)
P0130 means the module detected an electrical fault in the upstream oxygen sensor circuit on bank 1. A failed sensor, wiring damage, or exhaust leak near the sensor are the most common causes.
The engine runs on default fuel maps. Fuel economy suffers and the engine may run rich or lean depending on conditions. This code will cause an emissions test failure.
What P0130 means
The upstream oxygen sensor (before the catalytic converter) is the primary feedback sensor for closed-loop fuel control. The module monitors its voltage output and response time. P0130 sets when the signal is stuck, out of range, or not responding as expected. This forces the module into open-loop fueling, using predetermined maps instead of real-time feedback.

How to diagnose it
Check live data for sensor voltage
With the engine warm and running, monitor the upstream O2 sensor voltage. It should oscillate between 0.1V and 0.9V. A stuck reading indicates a failed sensor.
Inspect wiring and connector
Check the sensor harness for chafing, heat damage, and connector corrosion.
Check for exhaust leaks near the sensor
Inspect the exhaust manifold and downpipe for leaks upstream of the sensor. A leak lets air in and skews the sensor reading lean. Listen for ticking noises at idle and look for soot marks around joints and gaskets.
