P0480 means the module cannot control the cooling fan. The vehicle may run normally on the open road and overheat in traffic, which makes this more serious than it first appears.

What P0480 means

The module commands the cooling fan based on coolant temperature, air conditioning demand and vehicle speed, and monitors the circuit that does it. P0480 means the circuit is not behaving as expected — commonly a failed relay, a blown fuse or damaged wiring rather than the fan motor itself. The risk is specific: at road speed there is enough airflow through the radiator without the fan, so the fault stays hidden until the vehicle is stationary in traffic, which is exactly when overheating does its damage.
